If last season’s Rose Bowl performance against Oregon is any sign of things to come, the Ohio State Buckeyes could be on their way to a sixth straight Big Ten title and maybe even a national championship. The Buckeyes bring back a lot of talent on both sides of the football, and they should benefit from a kind schedule. Ohio State gets all four of its non-conference games in the horseshoe, and, of those four, Miami appears to be the only challenge. Late in the season, either Penn State or Iowa could potentially trip up the Buckeyes, but they would still likely earn a share of the conference title with just one loss. Quarterback Terrelle Pryor is a gifted athlete at the quarterback position who appears ready to enter Heisman Trophy discussions. The Buckeyes also have NFL talent at every level of their defense with guys like Cameron Heyward and Ross Homan expected to take their games to another level. Golden Nugget College Football Lines
Offense – The offense starts with Pryor, and it will succeed as long as it allows Pryor to make plays with his legs as well as his arm. Pryor led the Buckeyes in rushing with 779 yards in 2009, and he scored seven times on the ground in the process. I really like it when the Buckeyes roll him out, giving him the run pass-pass option. Add talented running backs Brandon Saine and Boom Herron to the mix, and the Buckeyes have one stacked backfield. Wide receiver DeVier Posey is coming off a strong season, catching 60 passes for 828 yards and eight touchdowns. He will be Pryor’s go-to guy, and Dane Sanzenbacher will benefit when opposing defenses pay too much attention to Posey. A big offensive front with four of five returning starters will be the glue.
Defense – The Buckeyes bring back six starters on the defensive side of the football, and there is plenty of confidence surrounding the guys that are stepping in. The front seven is strong with defensive end Cameron Heyward, defensive tackle Dexter Larimore and linebackers Ross Homan and Brian Rolle leading the charge. This should allow the Buckeyes to hold their opponents under the three yards per carry mark as they did in 2009. In addition to leading the team in tackles (108), Homan also led the Buckeyes in interceptions (5). The secondary returns three of four starters and is led by strong safety Jermale Hines.
